French

We've been working a lot on our writing skills this month, focusing on how to generate and organize ideas before beginning the writing process. Our first writing project was centered around New Years Resolutions for 2016. The second project was based on the book 'Snowmen at Night', where the students wrote about what they would do at night if they were a snowman.

Math

We have been working on 2D geometry over the past few weeks - identifying 2D shapes and their characteristics, looking at quadrilaterals and polygons, exploring lines of symmetry and reflections. The grade 3s have also been looking at acute, right, and obtuse angles, as well as exploring congruent shapes, parallel lines, and perpendicular lines.

Science

The grade 2s are currently exploring simple machines. So far, we've talked about and experimented with inclined planes and levers. The grade 3s are exploring the idea of stable structures, focusing on the importance of materials and stable shapes. They are also looking at what features can be used to strengthen and support structures to increase stability.

Phys Ed

We have been working on our spatial awareness skills, as well as our catching and receiving skills, by playing a modified version of volleyball called Atomic Volleyball. In this game, the students are set up the same way as volleyball, but with no net and smaller courts. Their goal is to catch the ball from a serve and then pass it 2 more times before tossing it back to the other team. The game is designed to develop the movement and communication skills needed to succeed when they learn volleyball in the junior grades.
