Storytelling
On Tuesday, students brought home a note explaining storytelling and the process and timeline for this year.
Over the past two weeks, we read through Robert Munsch stories (grade 2) and a variety of legends (grade 3). We've been looking at the story line, which parts of the story were repetitive and how that could help us in retelling the story, how telling the story with expression really helps to hold the audience's attention, and also how the story does not need to be retold word-for-word to be well-done. Students seem very excited about storytelling!
As per the note, students should choose a Robert Munsch book (grade 2) or legend (grade 3) by February 11, 2016. After that, students should be practicing their stories at home on a regular basis, to become more familiar with the story and more comfortable with retelling the story. So far there is a lot of enthusiasm and excitement surrounding storytelling, and I expect this to continue as we prepare. However, as with any presentation, sometimes students (like adults) get nervous. I will continue to remind students that they will all present in class, and we are all supportive of each other (during preparation and presentation too). Should they be selected to represent our class in the gym for the Primary Storytelling, they have the choice whether they would like to present or not. Within our class, this is an activity in French Oral Communication, and also an opportunity for us to work together in practicing and rehearsing, and to enjoy ourselves in retelling some funny stories and interesting legends.
